Gaetano Sambuca is a liqueur made predominantly from elderberries and aniseed. The resulting taste is that of sweet licorice. Italian in origin, Sambuca became quite fashionable beyond its home region of Rome in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Sambuca is traditionally consumed as a digestif after a meal. It is often served straight-up and garnished with 3 coffee beans. Other popular cocktails made with Sambuca include the Slippery Nipple and Italian Coffee.
